Anak Verhoeven’s Early Life and Biography

Anak Verhoeven is a Belgian professional climber. On July 15th, 1996, she was born in Shriek to climbing parents.

In the past five years, Verhoeven has been famous for being the first female climber in history to set up a 9a+ (5.15a) path.

Verhoeven’s path to climbing traces back to when she was four years old. However, it wasn’t until she was eleven that she started to give it serious attention. 

She made her debut in the junior competitions in 2010 and, in 2013, she earned a spot in the senior circuit.

Since then, Anak has established a solid reputation as a repeated champion of the Belgian lead climber’s tournament.

By 2016, she had also made it to the top of the IFSC world ranking list.

But after two years, in 2021, she would go ahead and announce her retirement from competitive climbing. Consequently, she shifted her attention to outdoor rock climbing. 
  • She made the debut attempt of a first free ascent on the Sang Neu’s grade 9a (5.14d) climb in September 2017. When he accomplished his feat in France, she became the first female athlete in climbing history to achieve this feat.
